How Arc In Space used terrazzo, bamboo, ash wood and carefully composed marble to shape a sustainable material identity rooted in Dahab.
In a place as distinctive as Dahab, sustainable design begins with materials that feel as though they belong there. For Arc In Space, that meant moving away from artificial finishes and building the hotel’s identity through natural texture, honest craft and a more grounded expression of luxury.
Natural materials as the starting point
Eng. Ramez G. B. explains that porcelain and other artificial finishes were deliberately excluded from the design direction. Instead, the material strategy focused on natural choices that could support the character of a sustainable building while remaining practical and visually refined.
A palette shaped by Dahab
Terrazzo was used across floors and walls, supported by bamboo, ash wood and marble. Together, these materials create a tactile palette with warmth, depth and a direct relationship to Dahab’s coastal landscape. The result is calm and contemporary, yet unmistakably connected to its setting.
Reframing luxury through craft
Luxury did not come from applying a generic polished finish. The design mixed larger marble fragments and blocks into a distinctive composition inspired by terrazzo and broken-marble techniques. Enlarging the scale created visual richness while preserving the relaxed Dahab and Nubian character at the heart of the concept.
Sustainability as a design identity
This approach shows how sustainability can become part of a project’s visual language rather than an added technical layer. Material selection, scale and craft work together to reduce dependence on artificial finishes while giving the hotel an identity that is both refined and rooted in place.
