Revealing the Original Soul: Reviving a Dahab Hotel Through Design

A strong building can lose its identity without losing its potential. In Dahab, the task was to look beyond years of mismatched additions and reveal the character that had always existed underneath.

A hotel shaped by Dahab

The property was one of Dahab's long-established hotels. Its original structure had been thoughtfully designed, and its story began with an owner who came from Switzerland, fell in love with Dahab and created a place that gradually grew as more people gathered around it.

Over time, successive changes added new finishes, colours and interventions without one coherent direction. The hotel remained full of atmosphere, and its underlying structure was still present, but the visual language had become fragmented.

Finding the jewel beneath the layers

Arc In Space approached the project as a process of uncovering rather than replacing. The team removed visual clutter, restored clarity to the original structure and brought Dahab's spirit forward through colour, natural materials and a stronger relationship between the rooms, the dome and natural ventilation.

The goal was not to make the hotel feel imported or over-designed. It was to reconnect the building with its coastal setting and turn its existing strengths into a clear, memorable identity.

Design as repositioning

This kind of renovation shows how architecture and interior design can do more than refresh finishes. By protecting what is valuable and editing what weakens the experience, design can reposition an established property without erasing its history.
